שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת לְדָוִד

Shir hama’alot, leDavid.

A song of ascents, of David.

שָׂמַחְתִּי בְּאֹמְרִים לִי בֵּית ה’ נֵלֵךְ׃

Samachti be’omrim li, “Beit ADONAI nelech.”

I rejoiced when they said to me, “Let us go to the House of ADONAI.”

עֹמְדוֹת הָיוּ רַגְלֵינוּ בִּשְׁעָרַיִךְ יְרוּשָׁלָם׃

Omdot hayu ragleinu bish’arayich Yerushalam.

Our feet are standing within your gates Jerusalem.

יְרוּשָׁלַם הַבְּנוּיָה כְּעִיר שֶׁחֻבְּרָה לָּהּ יַחְדָּו׃

Yerushalam habenuyah ke’ir shechubrah lah yachdav.

Jerusalem, the builded one, as a city that is joined to herself together.

שֶׁשָּׁם עָלוּ שְׁבָטִים שִׁבְטֵי יָהּ

Shesham alu shevatim shivtei Yah

There they go up, the tribes, the tribes of Yah,

עֵדוּת לְיִשְׂרָאֵל לְהֹדוֹת לְשֵׁם ה’׃

edut leYisra’el lehodot leshem ADONAI.

a testimony to Israel, to give thanks to the name of ADONAI.

כִּי שָׁמָּה יָשְׁבוּ כִסְאוֹת לְמִשְׁפָּט

Ki shamah yashvu chisot lemishpat

For there they have sat, the thrones of judgment,

כִּסְאוֹת לְבֵית דָּוִד׃

kisot leVeit David.

the thrones of the House of David.

שַׁאֲלוּ שְׁלוֹם יְרוּשָׁלָם יִשְׁלָיוּ אֹהֲבָיִךְ׃

Sha’alu shelom Yerushalam yishlayu ohavayich.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem; may those who love you be at ease.

יְהִי שָׁלוֹם בְּחֵילֵךְ שַׁלְוָה בְּאַרְמְנוֹתָיִךְ׃

Yehi shalom beheilech shalvah be’armenotayich.

May there be peace in your fortresses, quietness in your citadels.

לְמַעַן אַחַי וְרֵעָי

Lema’an achai vere’ai

For the sake of my brothers and my friends,

אֲדַבְּרָה נָּא שָׁלוֹם בָּךְ׃

adabrah na shalom bach.

I will say, pray now, let there be peace within you.

לְמַעַן בֵּית ה’ אֱלֹהֵינוּ

Lema’an Beit ADONAI Eloheinu

For the sake of the House of ADONAI our God

אֲבַקְשָׁה טוֹב לָךְ׃

avakshah tov lach.

I will seek good for you.
