Iyyar 1 – Take a Census

Iyyar 1, 5784; from sunset May 8, 2024, to sunset May 9, 2024

This is the name “Mosheh” (מֺשֶׁה – Moses) as seen in the Dead Sea Scrolls, written over two thousand years ago.

Today in the Bible, the Lord spoke to Moses, instructing him to take a census of all men of military age.

And the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they came out from the land of Egypt, saying, “Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel, by families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of names, every male by their polls; from twenty years old and upward, all who are able to go forth to war in Israel; you and Aaron shall count them by their armies.” – Numbers 1:1-3

And they assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month, and they registered by families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, by their polls. – Numbers 1:18
