Adar 1, 5785; from sunset February 28, 2025, to sunset March 1, 2025
(The first day of the twelfth month)

This is the name “Yeshua” (יֵשׁוּעַ – Jesus) as seen on the James Ossuary. Yeshua comes from the verb “yasha” meaning “to save or deliver.” Yeshua means “Salvation.”
Earlier we studied the Hebrew Scriptures behind Shabbat Shekalim – the Sabbath of Shekels. We learned that it was the time of year that the half shekel was collected from every Jewish male, twenty years of age and above. Today in the Bible, we’re going to look at related verses from the Apostolic Scriptures which could possibly be dated to today. Let’s see how Jesus complied with His Father’s commandment from Exodus.
When they had come to Capernaum, those who received the temple tax came to Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?”
He said, “Yes.”
And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?”
Peter said to Him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.” – Matthew 17:24-27 (NKJ)
