Adar 23 – Moses took Aaron and his sons, he dressed them in their garments, and anointed them…

Adar 23, 5785; from sunset March 22, 2025, to sunset March 23, 2025

(The twenty-third day of the twelfth month)

This is the name “Mosheh” (מֺשֶׁה – Moses) as seen in the Dead Sea Scrolls, written over two thousand years ago.

In the week before the Tabernacle was inaugurated, according to tradition, it was erected in the morning and dismantled in the evening.   The process was repeated daily during the week of Adar 23-29.  This gave the Levites an opportunity to practice their duties before “going live” on the first day of the month of Nisan.  Also occurring today, Moses served as the High Priest and inaugurated Aaron and his four sons into the priesthood.  Then, on the “eighth day” — the 1st of Nisan — the Tabernacle was assembled and Aaron and his sons assumed the priesthood.  Then the divine presence of God came to dwell in the Tabernacle.  Our reading below comes from the book of Jasher.

And in the twelfth month, in the twenty-third day of the month, Moses took Aaron and his sons, and he dressed them in their garments, and anointed them and did unto them as the Lord had commanded him, and Moses brought up all the offerings which the Lord had on that day commanded him.  Moses afterward took Aaron and his sons and said to them, for seven days shall you remain at the door of the tabernacle, for thus am I commanded.  And Aaron and his sons did all that the Lord had commanded them through Moses, and they remained for seven days at the door of the tabernacle. – Jasher 83:1-3

We hope you’ll join us again next week as we celebrate the new month of Nisan and remember the many things that happened in the Bible on that day.
