Nisan 1 – I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon…

Nisan 1, 5785; from sunset March 29, 2025, to sunset March 30, 2025

(The first day of the first month)

This is an image of one of the 66 stone tiles known as the “Ezekiel Plates” discovered in the 1800s at the traditional tomb site of the prophet Ezekiel.  The tiles contain the entire book of Ezekiel and were placed inside the tomb with the letter-side facing toward the wall. There is an old Talmudic tradition that the original book of Ezekiel was buried with the prophet in his tomb and was left there to be revealed in the last days.

Today in the Bible, Ezekiel received a word from the LORD regarding the downfall of Egypt, by the same man who brought Ezekiel into exile — Nebuchadnezzar — king of Babylon.

And it came to pass in the twenty-seventh year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon caused his army to labor strenuously against Tyre; every head was made bald, and every shoulder rubbed raw; yet neither he nor his army received wages from Tyre, for the labor which they expended on it.  Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: `Surely I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; he shall take away her wealth, carry off her spoil, and remove her pillage; and that will be the wages for his army.  I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor, because they worked for Me,’ says the Lord GOD.  In that day I will cause the horn of the house of Israel to spring forth, and I will open your mouth to speak in their midst.  Then they shall know that I am the LORD.’” – Ezekiel 29:17-21

It’s fascinating that God gave Ezekiel a vision about the downfall of Egypt on Nisan 1.  During the month of Nisan, our minds begin to turn toward the Passover and the exodus from Egypt.  God told Ezekiel that Nebuchadnezzar would plunder the Egyptians – just as the children of Israel plundered the Egyptians on the night that the destroyer passed over their homes.

Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing.  And the LORD had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested.  Thus they plundered the Egyptians. – Exodus 12:35-36
