Nisan 8, 5785; from sunset April 5, 2025, to sunset April 6, 2025
(The eighth day of the first month)

This is an image of a bulla, a clay impression, that was used to seal documents. The bulla reads “Belonging to Hezekiah, (son of) Ahaz, king of Judah.” It was discovered near the Temple Mount in 2015.
Hezekiah Sanctifies the Temple
Last week we learned that, on Nisan 1, Hezekiah and his loyal Levites stood up against the iniquities of their fathers and began the restoration and cleansing of the Temple. Today in the Bible, they came to the vestibule of the LORD.
Then the priests went into the inner part of the house of the LORD to cleanse it, and brought out all the debris that they found in the temple of the LORD to the court of the house of the LORD. And the Levites took it out and carried it to the Brook Kidron.
Now they began to sanctify on the first day of the first month, and on the eighth day of the month they came to the vestibule of the LORD. Then they sanctified the house of the LORD in eight days, and on the sixteenth day of the first month they finished. – 2 Chronicles 29:16-17 (NKJ)
It took eight days to sanctify the Temple. Eight seems to be THE number when it comes to that. We just learned that Moses and Aaron took eight days to inaugurate the Tabernacle. Last fall, we learned that Solomon’s dedication of the First Temple lasted eight days. And, just this winter, the Maccabees took eight days to rededicate the Second Temple in what has become known as the Feast of Hanukkah. The word “Hanukkah” means dedication.
Hezekiah is seeking to restore all that his father had defiled. We’ll continue to follow his efforts throughout the upcoming months and hope you’ll join us!
