Nisan 12 – The hand of our God was upon us…

Nisan 12, 5785; from sunset April 9, 2025, to sunset April 10, 2025

(The twelfth day of the first month)

This is the name “Ezra” (עֶזְרָא) the Scribe as seen in the Dead Sea Scrolls; written by a scribe over two thousand years ago.

Ezra began his journey from Babylon to Jerusalem on the first day of the first month (Nisan).  King Artaxerxes granted him everything he needed to rebuild the Temple and offer sacrifices to the LORD.  Ezra put out the word, and those who were willing to travel with him gathered together at the river that flows to Ahava.  They camped there for three days.  During that time they got organized, sent for priests and Levites to come with them, and did some fasting and praying for a safe journey.  Ezra wasn’t messing around; it’s time to go, so let’s get moving.  I hope you packed everything; you can buy a toothbrush along the way.  Today in the Bible, Ezra and company start their nearly four-month-long journey to Jerusalem.

Then we departed from the river of Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go to Jerusalem.  And the hand of our God was upon us, and He delivered us from the hand of the enemy and from ambush along the road. – Ezra 8:31

All said and done, nearly 1,700 men showed up to make the journey to Jerusalem with Ezra; plus, their women and children.  Over the next four months we’ll be checking in with Ezra from time to time to see where they might be on their journey back to the Promised Land.
