Nisan 14 – Now it was the sixth hour…

Nisan 14, 5785; from sunset April 11, 2025, to sunset April 12, 2025

(The fourteenth day of the first month)

This is the name “Yeshua” (יֵשׁוּעַ – Jesus) as seen on the James Ossuary. Yeshua comes from the verb “yasha” meaning “to save or deliver.” Yeshua means “Salvation.”

Today in the Bible, we find ourselves at the foot of the cross.  It’s the sixth hour and Jesus has been there for about three hours now.  Even so, He’s still reaching out and still trying to fulfill the meaning of His name and bring salvation to all who will hear…including the thief on the cross next to Him.  Let’s pick up where we left off this morning.

The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine, and saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.” – Luke 23:36-37

Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save.  If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him.  He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, `I am the Son of God.’” – Matthew 27:41-43

Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”

But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?  And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.”  Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

Now it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. – Luke 23:39-44
