Tammuz 18, 5785; from sunset July 13, 2025, to sunset July 14, 2025
(The eighteenth day of the fourth month)

This is the name “Mosheh” (מֺשֶׁה – Moses) as seen in the Dead Sea Scrolls, written over two thousand years ago.
Yesterday, Moses broke the Tablets of Testimony and sent those loyal to the Lord to cleanse the camp. Three thousand who did not consecrate themselves to the Lord paid for it with their lives. Today in the Bible, we’ll continue on with the story to see what happened the next day.
Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. So now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”
Then Moses returned to the LORD and said, “Oh, these people have committed a great sin, and have made for themselves a god of gold! Yet now, if You will forgive their sin– but if not, I pray, blot me out of Your book which You have written.”
And the LORD said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book. Now therefore, go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, My Angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I visit for punishment, I will visit punishment upon them for their sin.”
So the LORD plagued the people because of what they did with the calf which Aaron made. – Exodus 32:20-35 (NKJ).
“Perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.” I love that Moses said that. This act of Moses foreshadows Jesus’ work on our behalf.
Both Jesus and Moses were up there with the Father: Moses on Mount Sinai, Jesus in Heaven.
They both came down: Moses from Sinai with the two tablets of God’s Word, Jesus, the Living Word of God, born of Mary.
Moses broke the tablets because of sin, Jesus’ body was broken due to our sin.
Moses ascended Sinai saying, “perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.” Jesus ascended to Heaven, He did make atonement for our sin.
Three thousand were killed in the desert after the golden calf; three thousand were saved on that first Pentecost after Jesus’ resurrection (Acts 2:41).
Moses returned with new tablets, a restored covenant, written on both sides; Jesus will return again, a new covenant (Mark 14:24-25), a scroll written on both sides (Revelation 5:1).
Moses’ face was shining from being in the presence of God; Jesus’ face – shining from being in the presence of God (Revelation 1:16).
After Moses’ return, they begin building the Tabernacle, a dwelling place for God; Jesus will return to prepare a place where God will once again dwell among His people (Revelation 21:3).
