Av 1, 5785; from sunset July 25, 2025, to sunset July 26, 2025
(The first day of the fifth month)

This is the name “Ezra” (עֶזְרָא) the Scribe as seen in the Dead Sea Scrolls; written by a scribe over two thousand years ago.
Today in the Bible, Ezra, and those who travelled with him from Babylonia, arrived in Jerusalem. We’ve been following them for nearly four months now; tracing their journey as they returned from the exile. The good hand of the Lord was upon them and He brought them safely to Jerusalem.
And Ezra came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king. On the first day of the first month he began his journey from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him. For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel. – Ezra 7:8-10
There are some who attribute Psalm 126 to Ezra (or someone in his group) and it seems to make sense. Imagine, after four grueling, hot, dusty months of travel and decades of exile, the feeling of returning to Jerusalem! I envision us singing this psalm when the Lord brings us all to Jerusalem! (I’ll meet you in the air!).
A song of ascents.
When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed.
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations,
“The LORD has done great things for them.”
The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
Restore our fortunes, LORD, like streams in the Negev.
Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.
Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.
Psalm 126 (NIV)
