Elul 25 – I Have Been Established From Everlasting…

Elul 25, 5786; from sunset September 6, 2026, to sunset September 7, 2026

(The twenty-fifth day of the sixth month)

This is the name “Shelomoh” (שְׁלׄמׄה – Solomon) as seen in the Aleppo Codex, written over one thousand years ago. The name Solomon stems from the verb-root “shalam” meaning “to be complete, sound, or peaceful.” It’s the same root that the familiar word “shalom” comes from.

Wisdom

In honor of the first day of creation, let’s remember the wisdom of King Solomon, from his book of Proverbs. If you remember, after his father David’s death, the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream and asked him to make a request, “What shall I give you?” Let’s refresh our memory of that night.

At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?”

And Solomon said: “You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. Now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”

The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”

Then Solomon awoke; and indeed it had been a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants. – 1 Kings 3:5-15 (NKJ)

As a result of Solomon’s request, we have been given insight into wisdom. The Wisdom that was present before the creation of the world.

The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old.

I have been established from everlasting,

from the beginning, before there was ever an earth.

When there were no depths I was brought forth,

when there were no fountains abounding with water.

Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth;

while as yet He had not made the earth or the fields,

or the primeval dust of the world.

When He prepared the heavens, I was there,

when He drew a circle on the face of the deep,

when He established the clouds above,

when He strengthened the fountains of the deep,

when He assigned to the sea its limit,

so that the waters would not transgress His command,

when He marked out the foundations of the earth,

then I was beside Him as a master craftsman;

and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him,

rejoicing in His inhabited world,

and my delight was with the sons of men.
