Tishrei 20 – Sukkot, Day 6 – The Offerings

Tishrei 20, 5787; from sunset September 30, 2026, to sunset October 1, 2026

(The twentieth day of the seventh month)

Today in the Bible, we want to remember the animals that were sacrificed to the LORD. Though it may be hard for us to understand in our day, they were an integral part of God’s self-prescribed worship system. Their lives were dedicated to the LORD.

Bring Your Offerings

In the 29th chapter of Numbers, God reveals a listing of offerings for observing His Holy Days. The offerings for the Feast of Sukkot are, by far, the most extensive.  In this series, each day we’ll focus on a different facet of the offerings.  Today, we’ll take a look at the “grain, oil, and wine.”

Sometimes we may tend to ignore the portion of the offerings that encompass grain, oil, and wine.  Yet, these represent important covenant promises by God.

And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the LORD your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, then I will give you the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil. – Deuteronomy 11:13-14 (NKJ)

They are listed among the blessings for obeying His commandments.  Each one of these carries its own symbolism.

Grain – Represents God’s sustenance.  By Sukkot, the grain harvest from last spring has been harvested and stored away.  It has been providing nourishment all summer and will continue throughout the fall and winter.  In just a few weeks, some of that harvest will be planted yet again, providing a continual cycle of planting, growing, harvesting and sustenance.

Oil – Represents anointing, consecration, healing, and the presence of the Holy Spirit…God is with us.  The olive harvest occurs in the autumn and its oil brings illumination for the dark winter months ahead.  The menorah in the Temple represents God’s Word and Spirit which illuminate our lives and show us His path.

Wine – Represents joy and celebration.  The grape harvest is completed in time for the rejoicing commanded at Sukkot.  The Messianic Age will be a time of an overabundance of wine…each man will sit under his own vine and fig tree.

Below are the requirements for the sixth day of Sukkot.

On the sixth day present eight bulls, two rams, and fourteen lambs in their first year without blemish, and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams, and for the lambs, by their number, according to the ordinance; also one goat as a sin offering, besides the regular burnt offering, its grain offering, and its drink offering. – Numbers 29:29-31 (NKJ)
