Today in the Bible grew out of a desire to better understand the biblical calendar and to place as many events as possible on that calendar.  Some are specific to the day, some are placed by Jewish or Christian tradition, some are a best guess, and some are seasonal – an “it would have happened sometime around now” kind of thing.
